March of 2020 is a moment in the history of AWI that will change us. It will change us as a company, as employees, as managers, as coworkers, as friends. It will make us better. It will make us stronger. You can feel the teamwork, you can sense the immense pride. The Coronavirus pandemic threw a wrench in what we planned to be a record year. It scares us. We worry about ourselves, our customers, our friends, families, and our neighbors. Innovation and teamwork will get us through. Innovation is always the answer that keeps us moving forward.
Mother nature threw a massive sucker punch but we are not about to take this one on the chin without a fight! We are extremely proud of the immediate teamwork and sense of pride displayed as we all adapted to the quickly changing business landscape in the US. We went from a company that had very few people working remotely to having over a dozen people working and thriving outside the office in less than 3 days.
We learned about Zoom, and video conferencing. Found new ways to do the same tasks, but in new and innovative ways. We challenged the status quo and found ways around process and paperwork we thought we could never do without. We’ve found ways to be more efficient.
Everyone pitched in and worked together to make our shop work environment as safe as possible. We quickly developed cleaning and sanitizing systems to protect our co-workers and friends. Our production staff continues to work as our designation as an essential business during the shutdowns has allowed us to continue to support our partners in the food and ag industries.
Innovation is what separates good companies from great ones. Innovation is what fuels growth and allows new and fresh ideas to be heard. We have always innovated; this will be no different. We are feeling great pride in our team and how much innovation has allowed us to continue and to thrive. This moment may change us. It is up to us to make it for the better! While we know this fight is far from over, we can assure you that AWI will continue to innovate and find ways to make our business, products and customers service better than ever before. We are up for the challenge!
